Weds 24th – Fri 26th May
We are looking forward to celebrating Dunalley’s first Literature Festival next week, we have so many exciting activities planned.
Authors including Hannah Shaw, Andy Seed, Kate Townsend and John Rigby will be spending some time with us, running writing and creative workshops across the week.
Hannah Shaw and Andy Seed will be signing copies of their books after school on Wednesday 25th, which will be available to buy.
A ‘bedtime stories and parental event’ will be held on Thursday 25th May from 6-6:45pm, where children can come and enjoy a bedtime story and snack – please wear your pyjamas if you wish! Whilst waiting for your child, parents can also enjoy refreshments in the hall and browse school reading materials and other book related resources.
We are also hoping to launch our ‘School Book Wish List’, that evening, too.
A book fair, run by the very popular ‘The Yellow Lighted Book-shop', who have an amazing selection of books, will take place after school on the Thursday and Friday of this week.
A celebration assembly will take place on the Friday morning for all pupils to share their work completed as we celebrate reading and writing.
Year 2 completed their SATs this week. Well done, to all the children for approaching them with a positive attitude and trying their best. Your teachers were proud of you.
Congratulations to everyone who competed in the Swimming Gala last night. You all competed with great spirit and enthusiasm. A big shout out to Solomon Toth who came 4th in the individual Freestyle Final.
We are excited to celebrate Being Healthy the weeks of 3rd and 10th July. This is part of our PSHE curriculum but encompasses much more. During the fortnight we will have:
KS2 sports day – 11th July
KS1 sports day – 13th July
Our catering team will be putting on healthy eating events for children including the Smoothie Bike!
We would like to ask if any parents would like to lead a group activity at lunchtime (between 11.45-12.45) on any day during the fortnight to please get in touch with Mr Price. Maybe a yoga session on the field or basketball on the courts – anything healthy and fun that you are passionate about would be welcomed! Let’s support Healthy body, healthy minds, healthy relationships together.
The children have had so much fun this week, especially as the weather has been so lovely.
Following our Platinum award last month, more schools have visited us to see our OPAL lunchtimes too.
OPAL Bingo made a huge difference to our lunchtime play as we managed to gather so much additional equipment, but we are always in need of items to replace things or add to our stock.
We often reach out to our families for donations, it's always worth thinking of OPAL whenever you are having a clear out!
This week we would really like:
- Brooms
- Sledges (Plastic ones)
- Small world characters
- Little Tikes Cars - Theses are just fabulous, children from reception to Year 6 love them.
The large barrels have been so much fun too, if you have any please let us know.
Applications for FREE SCHOOL MEALS
If you child is currently in YEAR 2 you may need to apply for free school meals now in order to qualify for September, when your son or daughter will no longer qualify for free infant school meals as they will be in year 3 (KS2) .
To apply please follow this link:
Should you need any help at all please contact the school office and we can help you with your application.
Lost Property - Please NAME your items
We are getting an increasing amount of lost property on site, a large amount of which is actually NOT NAMED.
Replacing uniform can be a costly exercise and we would strongly recommend that you label everything with your child's name.
The lunch team and the site team will do a general sweep at the end of lunch, when it appears things are going missing, but please chat with your children about the importance of looking after their uniform items, lunch boxes and water bottles.
Many thanks.
We have an exciting date for your diaries. 'Dunalley Colour Run' will take place at school, during the afternoon of Saturday 16th September.
The cost per family will be kept as low as possible to ensure everyone can take part and will include a t shirt and a cup of colour dye.
More details wil follow, but for now we just wanted you to save the date!

From the PTFA's:
A reminder that this coming Saturday, we have the first collaborative Summer Festival (11am-3pm) between Pittville School, Dunalley, Holy Trinity & St Johns.
There has been a lot of hard work and organisation by the 4 schools, with representatives from either the PTA's, the staff or both, along with representatives from the Fairview Community Association and we are all very much looking forward to this Saturday! Our aim is to put on a fantastic community event whilst hopefully raising some money for the respective schools!
We are so lucky to be able to use the school field for this event and we have LOTS going on for all ages and we do hope that lots of our students and families will come along and support.
We have a climbing wall, archery, graffiti artist, Prestbury Phantoms (beat the Goalie), Cheltenham Town Wheelers (CTW) (bring your bike and have a go on the skills area!), skittle as well as food vans, tuck shop and the usual summer fayre type stalls for young and old!
We have dance groups coming to entertain as well as a choir and our very own DJ Sparky will be supporting us with some tunes!
A bar for over 18's as well as a dry bar for those that are not!
We look forward to seeing many of you there, entry is on foot, via the main school gate.
