Harvest Festival - Food Bank Collections
We are looking forward celebrating Harvest on Thursday 26th October with Roger, the vicar from St Paul's Church.
Harvest is a wonderful opportunity to collect food for our local food bank. If you'd like to contribute canned food, please send the tins into school with your child(ren) or leave donations in the main school reception area. We will be collecting on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
At the OPAL event we will also have sweet cones available to purchase and coffee will be available from the Little Green Coffee Van.
BAG 2 SCHOOL 29/11/23
Please bring along donations of your second hand clothing, paired shoes, handbags, belts and accessories in plastic bags or sacks by 9am on THURSDAY 29th November. They will be collected and weighed the same day and will make journeys around the world starting their new life. We will earn for every kilo donated and the funds will be used to benefit our children at Dunalley whilst providing a sustainable option for you to recycle.
Year 6 Secondary School Applications Reminder
The closing date for secondary school applications is approaching - 31 October 2023.
Message from GCC Admissions:
We're encouraging parents/carers to apply online as this means they will receive an email on allocation day. The link to apply online is https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/education-and-learning/school-admissions/transfer-to-secondary-school-or-from-middle-to-high-school-september-2024/.
However, if any parents/carers are really struggling to use the online system, they can use the attached Secondary_2024_CAF and they will be notified by letter after allocation day. To ensure we receive complete paper CAFs before the deadline, the quickest way to return is for parents/carers to scan or photograph the CAF and email it to us. If you're happy to, we can accept scanned paper CAFs emailed to us by yourselves.
Parents/carers with queries can contact this team on either [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> or 01452 425407.
Year 2 have been focussing on poetry performance this week, they had a wonderful time learning this poem called 'Rhythm of Life'
This week Nursery & Pre-school have been reading the story 'Pumpkin Soup'.
We spent some time exploring different pumpkins, the size, weight and colour and what was inside. Then For Forest School, we made some pumpkin soup. The children agreed it was very tasty! We will be using the seeds to practise our subitising skills (noticing amounts of objects without counting). We also went on a snail hunt and lit a fire in the Kelly Kettle to make our hot chocolate. We have continued to learn our poems from The Poetry Basket, with this week being 5 Little Pumpkins. We are hoping to perform some of our poems to our parents next week.
ESFA Girls Football Tournament
On Wednesday we had no team, on Thursday we had a 30 minutes training session with 27 volunteers and by the end of Friday we had played 4.5 games and won all of them!
We took a squad of ten players from Years 5 and 6: 4 play for local teams; 1 plays hockey; and the remaining 5 were making their debuts in any competitive match.
Our first match was tricky as the opposition were good and our players were getting used to each other. However, we played well from defence through midfield to attack and prevailed 2-1 (Emilia 2). Our second match was an 8-0 victory! The girls were effective in their own play and took advantage of mistakes and the most pleasing aspects of their victory were their sportswomanship afterwards, laughing and joking together with the opposition players. (Emilia 4, Poppy 2, Hallie 1, OG 1). Demonstrating their togetherness and growth as a group, the girls swept aside the opposition 4-0 (Emilia 3, Poppy 1) and 5-0 (Poppy 2, Emilia 1, Hallie 1 (Worldie!)) in their last two games. The most pleasing aspect here was how comfortable our Year 5 debutantes became, dribbling, tackling, passing and encouraging like they'd been playing forever!
This meant we had qualified for the Finals at Ashley Manor and, as the rain started to fall, we all made our way across town. By the time we arrived at St. Edwards prep school it was bucketing down. We started however and against Swindon Village the quality of both teams was clear to see, defending and attacking. The match was end to end entertainment: 1-0 to us, 1-1 and with the last kick of the first half a brave shot from Poppy with an advancing keeper to think about: 2-1 to us (Emilia 1, Poppy 1). By that time the rain was torrential and the girls were wet through and freezing so, wisely the tournament was abandoned, re-organised for Thursday 9th November at Holy Apostles.
Well done everyone!
We are sorry to let you know that Phoebe Wilcox will be leaving us at half term. Our whole community will greatly miss Phoebe's care, thoughtfulness and sense of humour. We wish Phoebe all the best in her new career and hope that she will keep in touch.
We are currently recruiting to our family support team and will let you know when we have added to our Dunalley Team.
Thank you to those of you who completed the short survey, offering feedback on our Family lunches.
The survey is still open if you would like to respond:
Some of the responses are here for you to see, we have also responded to some queries.
- Absolutely loved it, a lovely insight into part of their school day and a wonderful idea. Thank you so much!
- It was really great, thank you. Myself and my son really enjoyed it.
- It was lovely to be able to join them for lunch (which was very tasty)! Some cups/water for parents would have been appreciated. Some “lunch dates” looked quite brief as children rushed off to play outside - could future events be combined with an OPAL open session or is that too complicated?!
We will certainly do better with drinks going forward, for the OPAL Play, we do offer Stay and Plays throughout the year which works better for families to play freely and does not create issues for Safeguarding. - I was able to see what my child eats at school and now I know the portions sizes and how varies are the selections.
- It was a really sweet time together and was fun to be part of his day.
- It would have been good to have eaten together, my daughter had eaten already and wanted to go and play so I was in and out!
Being able to go outside with them would be good as their playtime is valuable to them as opposed to sitting in the hall.
Whilst we did our best to ensure children went to the hatch with their families, clearly this didn't happen here. We will change things slightly next time and have families in the hall to greet their children rather than the other way around to avoid them getting their lunches first. - Really lovely to have lunch together and experience this important part of the school day. Great, tasty selection of meals.
- Should do this at least once a term, so that parents have more chances to attend, if they've missed the only one you offered.
We will look at opportunities but due to the restrictions with hall space we can only do this initiative when a whole year group is out. - Absolutely loved it, a lovely insight into part of their school day and a wonderful idea. Thank you so much!
- Lovely idea, we really enjoyed that.
