Dear Lions at Large Fans,
Lions at Large – The Pride of Gloucestershire Trail has now come to an end. Our busy lion tamers are gathering the pride together, making sure they are looking their best for the final events.
We want to extend a mighty roar of gratitude to everyone who has supported us and been part of the pride this year - all the adventurous trail goers, incredible sponsors, dedicated schools and enthusiastic volunteers - we could not have done it without you.
Together, we’ve created something truly special; a celebration of community, beautiful artwork and a lasting legacy to transform cancer care.
You can see the pride for the first and final time at our Roarsome Reunion, which is taking place on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October from 10am - 4pm (there are also quiet sessions in the afternoon of Friday 3rd October). For more information and to book please visit www.lionsatlarge.co.uk/farewell.
After that, the Lions will go under the hammer at Gloucester Cathedral on Thursday 9th October. For more information please visit www.lionsatlarge.co.uk/auction
Thank you once again for choosing to support Lions at Large, The Big Space Cancer Appeal and Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity.
Roaring Wishes,
The Lions at Large Team
Can you help support our pupils at Dunalley Primary School?
We’re looking for a standing desk to enhance learning and wellbeing in our classrooms. If you have one to donate, we’d be incredibly grateful.
We’re also hoping to create a calming space for children with special educational needs and are in need of:
- Two children’s tents
- Cushions
- Simple wooden jigsaw puzzles (up to 20 pieces)
- LEGO or construction kits
If you’re able to help, please get in touch with us at [email protected].
Your support means the world to us – thank you!
This morning in assembly, we launched our Positive Play Partner (PPP) initiative!
We’re inviting two children from each class in Years 2 to 6 to apply for the role of Positive Play Partner, supporting their peers during OPAL Play. We’ll be extending this opportunity to Year 1 children in the spring term.
Positive Play Partners will:
- Receive training and attend regular meetings with Mrs Byrne and the OPAL team
- Support their peers during lunchtime OPAL Play
- Help manage conflicts under the guidance of adults on duty
This is a fantastic opportunity for children to take an active role in school life, build leadership skills, and make a positive impact on their peers.
They have been learning about trees in science and went on a Leaf Hunt to see if they could identify different types of trees. They also had great fun building homes in geography using different types of construction kits!'

Year 2 - Invitation to come into class
Year 2 are diving into the fascinating story of The Great Fire of London!
As part of this exciting project, we’re inviting Year 2 parents and carers to join us in school on Tuesday 23rd September from 1:30pm to 3:00pm to help build model houses together.
We’re really looking forward to seeing you there and making this a memorable experience for the children!
Year 2 are learning how to print in their art unit this term.
Look at these beautiful leaf prints! They chose their own leaves outside, carefully choosing ones with interesting and prominent vein patterns that would print well. Some chose to make repeating patterns and some wanted show the beauty of their leaf print in stunning autumn colours.
Year 4 had an incredibly fun, rhythmic and energetic day of Samba drumming to launch their Road to Rio topic this term.
Both classes had sessions to learn their skills and perfect their performances before parents and families were invited to enjoy the learning and celebration.
All children were focussed and had a wonderful time – smiles on faces and shouts of joy rang through the hall (and the whole school!)
We’d love every child to have a pair of wellies in school each day – ready for splashing, jumping and exploring outdoors!
To help make this possible (and keep costs down), we’re re-launching our Welly Swap.
How it works:
-
Visit the Welly Display, located in the bicycle storage outside our main entrance.
-
Take a pair of wellies that fit your child.
-
If you can, leave a pair your child has grown out of for someone else to use.
It’s that simple – take a pair, leave a pair!
This swap not only saves money but also helps the environment by reducing waste. Our new Welly Display is already full of boots ready to be taken and worn – so come and find a pair today!
Together, we can make sure every child has the chance to enjoy the outdoors, whatever the weather.
We would like to remind our families about the Dunalley Pantry, which supports families who may be experiencing financial challenges. The pantry offers a variety of products, all free of charge, to help families in need.
For your convenience, the pantry has now been moved to the main entrance area. You are very welcome to pop in and collect whatever you need. There are some bags available on the side of the pantry unit for your use.
If you would like to donate items to the pantry, you are very welcome to add them directly to the shelves or hand them in at the school office.
Thank you for helping us to support our community!
