Once again, it has been another busy week in school with more to come tomorrow if you are attending Pippin's birthday party. He is currently selecting his birthday bowtie to wear! We understand that many of the children are excited and looking forward to the occasion. We have also had another trip out this week with year 6 visiting the Steam Museum in Swindon as a culmination to their learning in history. The museum staff commented on their knowledge of World War 2 when they were participating in the workshops and their excellent behaviour. Finally, there has been more sporting success as our football team participated in a festival afterschool last Friday and our hockey team completed their hockey matches this Monday.
Thank you to all of you who attended our family meetings this week whether online or in person. We hope that you found them valuable in discussing your child's learning and progress this term.
World Book Day - Reminder 3rd March
In addition, we would like to invite children to enter a writing or drawing competition. Children can write to their favourite character, design their own book review, write an alternative ending for a book that they love. The more creative, the better. We would also like to see a range of artwork linked to favourite books:
it could be a collage of a favourite scene, a portrait of a favourite character, a visual map of the book or a re-designed front cover. There will be prizes for the most inspiring piece of writing and artwork across each year group. Work will need to be handed into the class teacher by March 3rd and passed onto the English Team.
Other exciting activities will be taking place in school, over the day, to celebrate our love of reading in school!
Safer Internet Day 2022
8th February 2022
Safer Internet Day 2022 is on 8th February, with celebrations and learning around the theme ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’. Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, the celebration sees thousands of organisations get involved to promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.
#PlayYourPart-Safer Internet Day 2022
Each year in the UK, Safer Internet Day explores a new area or theme that is important to the young people we work with every day.
Earlier last year the UK Safer Internet Centre conducted research about the time that young people spend online and found that:
•77% of young people have spent more time playing online games and apps during the pandemic than ever before
•More than 1 in 5 young people see a supportive response to negativity within games and apps every week
•41% of young people have blocked or reported another user because of their behaviour
Safer Internet Day 2022 celebrates young people’s role in creating a safer internet and the ways they are shaping the interactive entertainment spaces they are a part of. The platforms young people use are spaces for connection, community and collaboration, which is why the day challenges them to foster supportive relationships and respectful communities, whilst equipping them with the skills they need to keep themselves and others safe in these spaces.

Nursery and Pre-school - Their week
Nursery & Pre-School have been learning about and celebrating Chinese & the lunar New Year this week. The children have made red and gold lanterns, learning that red is a lucky colour. Our cube has promoted discussion about food and dragons. We enjoyed a vegetable stir fry & rice, spring rolls and prawn crackers for lunch too.
It is also National Storytelling week and the children have been enjoying a range of stories each day. We are also excited to launch our 'Dunalley Bedtime Stories Lending Library', giving families an opportunity to borrow from a range of story books to share at bedtime.
We are so excited as at school today as we started to lessen our restrictions at lunch times. During assembly this morning Mrs Godfrey and Mrs Byrne presented the new OPAL lunchtime arrangements with the children.
We are now using two larger zones rather than more smaller ones, this enables children to mix a little more with other year groups, we hope that by the summer we can offer children the full OPAL experience and open the grounds to our children to explore freely. It was a shame the sun didn't shine today, but the children enjoyed mixing with children from other year groups nonetheless.
Dontaions
Thank you so much to the families who have donated items for OPAL play so far.
The difference these make to our lunch times is amazing.
Thank you for the donation of some seeds, we would still love to have some bedding plants and sensory herb plants if at all possible. We would also love den making items,
If you are able to donate please drop them into the School Office.
Nursery & Pre-school Open Morning for prospective families
It was lovely to meet and chat with families who attended our open morning last Saturday.
Mrs Godfrey and Mrs Byrne were on hand to meet and greet and provide refreshments whilst Mrs Carpenter did the important job of explaining all about our nursery & pre-school provision.
Due to the volume of interest we will open again on the morning of Saturday 26th March for prospective families of children due to start nursery in September 2022.
If you have a child due to start nursery in September 2022 and would like to visit the setting please email [email protected].
