Year 6 Residential to Call of the Wild
Most of our Year 6 children have been on a residential visit this week. They set off bright eyed and bushy tailed on Monday to visit Call of the Wild in Wales. They have all returned safely today, having embraced new opportunities and challenges.
We are extremely grateful to the staff that accompanied the adventure and helped the children to make life-long memories. Here are a few photos from their week away.
IMPORTANT DATE FOR YOUR DIARY - Cyber-safety parent/carer talk
We are delighted to let you know that, in partnership with Gloucestershire Constabulary, we will be hosting a cyber-safety information session for parents/carers on 3rd November at 6pm.
During the session, specialists will share practical advice and explain how you can keep your children safer online. We are in no doubt that the session will be interesting, informative and worthwhile. Having the skills, knowledge and understanding that will help children to navigate the virtual world safely is absolutely crucial. Please put the date and time in your diary.
We will send out a survey on the coming days so that you can book your place(s) at this free event.
Teachers are looking forward to welcoming families into school next week at the following times:
Tuesday 11th October - 2.15-3.15pm - Years 3 and 4
Wednesday 12th October - 2.15-3.15pm - Reception and Years 5 and 6
Thursday 13th October - 2.15-3.15pm - Years 1 and 2
These informal catch ups will give you an opportunity to hear more about what your children are learning in school and how you can help at home. Your children will also be able to show you their classrooms and share their books and achievements with you.
News from our Reception classes
Reception have been developing their storytelling and love of books this week. They have been out to our school allotment to pull up a Gigantic Turnip (or beetroot!), enjoyed storytelling each lunchtime from Year 6 readers and shared books outside from our outdoor library.
The weather this week has confirmed that wellies and waterproofs are essential items to have in school every day. As you know, in all but the most extreme weather conditions, we enjoy our fabulous grounds at playtime and lunchtimes.
We appreciate that wellies and waterproofs can be expensive. Given the success of our welly swap, we will extend the initiative to include waterproofs.
How will the swap work?
- Bring wellies and waterproof coats that no longer fit your child(ren) to the main entrance (there will be a drop off box near the double doors)
- If you would like to exchange items for larger sizes when our ‘swap shop’ is open, collect a voucher (these will be attached to the drop off box)
- Having collected and sorted the donations, families with vouchers will be invited pop into school to exchange them for new wellies and/or waterproofs. We hope that you will find sizes that suit.
Welcome back to Mrs Cornish who will be working in Year 2 this term.
Our children are continuing to fully embrace OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning), which is a delight to see. Reception children have settled into the lunch time routine very well and are also enjoying the experience.
The sand pit is as popular as ever. The children are required to wear wellies when playing in the sand, so please make sure that they have some in school.
Our OPAL Play team have asked the children what they would like to have more of and they have requested the following.
- Dolls
- Prams & pushchairs
- Tennis balls and basketballs
- Pumps for our space hoppers and balls
All donations will be greatly received.

As the year progresses there will be more opportunities for your children to engage in school trips and welcome exciting educational visitors into school. These events undoubtedly enhance learning and create lifelong memories.
Visits and visitors are carefully mapped to align with our curriculum to ensure that children benefit from a range of opportunities and experiences as they progress through the school. We recognise that value for money is increasingly important for families, and our teachers research good quality and recognised providers at all times.
As you are aware, in order to cover the cost of trips, we have to rely heavily on families making voluntary financial contributions. We are also extremely grateful to the PTFA for their contribution.
Please be aware that it is becoming increasingly common for schools to be forced to cancel school trips due to insufficent voluntary contributions being made. We are eager to avoid this situation at Dunalley and the inevitable disappointment that cancellation causes. We are currently discussing fund raising strategies that will help.
We have been extremely grateful to families who have contacted us in recent months to make additional contributions towards the cost of school trips. This has helped us to cover the shortfall that we usually experience. IF you are in the financial position to do so, and you would like to make a contribution that is larger than that requested, please be aware that you can do so when accessing ParentPay.
