Dunalley Literature Festival - Wednesday 22nd – Friday 24th May
We are looking forward to celebrating Dunalley’s Literature Festival next week.
We have a range of authors, poets and illustrators including Andy Seed, Coral Rumble, Tracey Corderoy and Jane Porter running writing and creative workshops across the week. Tracey Corderoy, who will be working with Nursery, Reception and Year 1, will be selling and signing books after school on Wednesday 22nd, as will Coral Rumble who will be working with Year 4 and 5. Andy Seed, working with Year 2 and 3, will be signing books after school on the Thursday.
A Bedtime Stories and Parental Event will be held on Thursday 23rd May, where children can come and enjoy a bedtime story and snack between 6 and 6:45pm, dressed in pyjamas, whilst parents can enjoy refreshments in the hall, browsing school reading materials.
A book fair, run by The Yellow Lighted Book-shop, will take place after school on the Wednesday and Thursday of that week and during the Bedtime Stories event.
Mental Health Awareness Week 13th-19th May
What is Mental Health Awareness Week?
Mental Health Awareness Week started in 2001 and is run by the Mental Health Foundation – a leading UK charity. The week aims to tackle stigma and help people understand and prioritise their and others’ mental health.
The theme for 2024 is ‘Movement: Moving more for our mental health’.
Why movement?
One of the most important things we can do to help protect our mental health is regular movement.
Our bodies and our minds are connected, so looking after ourselves physically also helps us prevent problems with our mental health. Exercise releases “feel good” hormones, that reduce feelings of stress and anger. It also helps us feel better about our bodies. It can improve our sleep too. If it involves other people, like being part of a team, a class or group we see regularly, that can also boost our mental health.
We are waiting for our beans, tomatoes and sunflowers to emerge and watering each day to help them.
Some great scientific language and instructional writing.
We are excited to welcome a new group of children to our Positive Play Partner team. They will be supporting OPAL play, helping reassure other children and get involved in games. Our children throughout school have reflected positively on this new initiative with quotes including “They have helped me resolve conflicts” and “When I didn’t have anyone to play with they found a game I could join in with.”
Our Positive Play Partner children who have been added to the existing nominees are:
Olive, Joseph, Freddie, Jenson, Meilin, River, Georgie, Aaliyah, Charlie
Friday 21st June – Non uniform day
On Friday 21st June we will have a non school uniform day for two charities. Children are able to come to school wearing red, yellow or orange.
Red will be for the Air Ambulance who are coming to school on 24th June; yellow for Cystic Fibrosis Trust and orange is the mix!
The money raised will be evenly split evenly between these charities.
We would like to remind our families about our Dunalley Pantry.
This facility aims to help families who are struggling with the cost of living crisis - we have a bank of products that are free to families in need.
Please contact Sam Ashton (our Family Support Worker) if you would like to use the pantry - she will be very happy to help. You can catch her at the beginning of the school day, call her on 01242 512391 (select option 2), or email [email protected].
We would be delighted to receive donations of the following:
- Toilet paper
- Bars of soap
- Washing powder/tablets
- Toothpaste
- Deodorant
- Rice
- Pasta
- Pasta Sauce
- Cereal bars
- Coffee
- Tinned veg
Please could everyone have a look around home for any school reading / library books.
You can drop them into the office or hand them to a member of staff.
We fully understand that sometimes books get forgotten, left at home or mixed up in home books.
If this is the case, please don't worry, just drop them back into school.
Thank you.
Are you looking for a nurturing, play based, term-time nursery & pre-school that fosters curiosity and excitement for learning?
We have sessions available for September 2024. Open between 8am and 5pm and we accept 15 and 30 funded hours (see our T & C for more information).
If you would like to find out more, please email [email protected] or check out our dedicated nursery & pre-school page here:
READY STEADY READ CHALLENGE
Please look out for your child’s sponsor form for the sponsored reading challenge. Remember, the more they read, the more they raise for our school! Thank you for your support in this challenge which will be run along the Dunalley Literature Festival. The festival has been funded by the PTFA thanks to your support throughout our events this year.
WATER FIGHT 07/06/24
The water fight has been so popular that it sold out in just 1 day! We cannot wait for the children to enjoy this after school event. Please remember that this event requires parent/guardian supervision.
QUIZ NIGHT 21/06/24
Get ready for our adult only Quiz Night on Friday 21st June at 7pm. Limited tickets will be released for sale next week at £8 per person, bookable through our online SumUp store. The quiz will be set up in teams of 4, each participant will need a ticket for the event. We are thrilled that Let’s Fry has agreed to feed us all again on the night and you can order and purchase through SumUp. Please feel free to bring along your favourite tipple to enjoy on the night and we will have soft drinks available to purchase. We also plan to run a raffle. Please let us know if you can help set up the event [email protected].
If your child has long hair, please make sure that it is tied up when they are at school. Doing so makes sure that it doesn't get in the way when they are playing and learning. Bunches and plaits also slow down the spread of nits.
Please be aware that we have headlice circulating in school.
Please check your child(ren) on at least a weekly basis and treat if required.
The NHS have some useful information about treatment and prevention which you can find HERE.
When at the chemist buying headlice treatment it is always worth asking the pharmacist about the NHS Minor Ailment Scheme, as you may be able to access the treatment for free.
Lates price increase from September 2024
From September 2024 we need to increase our Lates fees from £8.00 to £10.00 per day.
We have kept our rate lower than other schools for the last few years and our price remains competitive but sadly as school costs rise, so must our charge.
Thank you all for your continued support - we wanted to give those of you who use this facility as much notice as possible.
