This cohort of pupils went swimming for 20 weeks in year 4. Children that did not meet the recommended swimming standards were then invited for a third term and further interventions, if required.
Swimming assessments, intervention assessments, teacher knowledge & parent views were used to work out the children's swimming skill level at the end of Yr6.

Swimming Ability as acknowledged by the swimming pool
Non Swimmer:
Fear of water or have never been in a pool. Comfortable being in the water and moving around. Able to get feet off the floor and attempt to swim with aids.
Emerging Swimmer:
Can float on front and back without aids. Attempts to swim with no aids on front and back. Can swim with no aids for 10m on front and back.
Established and Enhanced Swimmer
Competent swimmer for 25+ meters. Swim full stroke of front crawl, back stroke or front crawl. Competent swimmer in deep water. Competent swimmer for 50m+.
Specific Skills at the end of Yr6 as required by Ofsted
These requirements include the ability to:

Swim competently, confidently, and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 meters.

Use a range of strokes effectively (e.g., front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke).
- Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
