· Number and Place Value: Up to 20

· Geometry: Properties of Shapes

· Addition and Subtraction

· Number and Place Value: up to 100

· Addition and Subtraction: Facts of 7 - 11

Your child will also have access to a programme called Numbots which will support your child’s maths. We will provide your child with login details. We will also send a knowledge organizer home with your child to inform you of what your child is learning in maths.

Your child will bring home a maths activity which supports their learning in school at the end of each week. This is optional and there is no pressure to complete the activity.

Reading
· Teachers will be giving the children one home reader each week appropriately matched to the level they are reading in school. Please can your child bring the books to school daily as there will be opportunities to read them in school.

· Please read daily with your child and record what they have read to you in their yellow reading records. (It could just be a tick, but it would help us to be able to more closely and effectively monitor which books have been read if you do this.)

· In the RWI home readers, there is a guide on how to use the reading book effectively.

· Your child will also be given the opportunity to choose a story time book each week.

· Reading should be enjoyable (not too tricky!)

· Reading should include a wide range of fiction and non-fiction.

Writing
n Autumn 1 the Power of Reading texts will be Here We are by Oliver Jeffers and the Owl Babies by Martin Waddell .

In Autumn 2 the texts will be Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak and The Robot and the Bluebird by David Lucas.

Literacy activities will be planned around these texts.

Spellings
Please find attached the Year 1 high frequency (common exception/red) words. These are the words that the children should be able to read and spell by the end of Year 1.
