Maths

Throughout the Spring term we will be covering units on Properties of shape, Multiplication and Division, Position and Direction, Times tables, Length and Mass, Fractions and Time and Money.

Remember that your child has access to Numbots and Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) which will support your child’s maths. We will put your child’s log-in in their Reading Records. If you lose it, please let us know as soon as possible and we will give you a replacement.

Homework

We will send homework activities on paper, please ask your child to retrieve these from their bags. The home work will include:

  • a maths activity to support what they are doing in class
  • Sometimes it will include a literacy based activity to support their learning.

 Reading

  • Please read daily with your child and record in yellow reading records.
  • Please read daily with your child and record what they have read to you in their yellow reading records. (It could just be a tick, but it would help us to be able to more closely and effectively monitor which books have been read if you do this.)
  • In the RWI home readers, there is a guide on how to use the reading book effectively
  • Your child will also be given the opportunity to choose a story time book from our library trolley at the end of the day by the adventure playground for you to read together. Please see allocated day below.

  • Reading should be enjoyable (not too tricky!)
  • Reading should include a wide range of fiction and non-fiction.

Writing

During Spring 1 the focus text is ‘Pattan’s Pumpkin’. Literacy activities will be planned around this text. In Spring  2 the focus text will be ‘Zeraffa Giraffa’. Please can we ask you not to read these to your children until we have read them at school! We often teach the book in sections and it can ruin the build up! Thanks.

Spellings

Please continue to practice the Year 1 and 2 high frequency (common exception/red) words. These are the words that the children should be able to read and spell by the end of Year 2. We will inform you each week of any focus spellings that we would like you to support your child with.
