Coronation Picnic - FRIDAY 5th May
On Friday the 5th of May we will celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III
We are really excited that that we can celebrate this momentous occasion together at Dunalley.
From the end of the school day (at 3.15pm) we will open our grounds for a family picnic, the PTFA have organised for Bar & Wok, a local Cheltenham restaurant to provide food for sale at the picnic, so if you don't have time to prepare food yourself, there will be food to buy ! Thank you PTFA.
The PTFA will also be selling ice creams and sweets.
KingShots Coffee will also be on site selling delicious hot drinks (he serves a lovely coffee).
There will be two competitions: a 'Cake fit for a King' and a 'Crown fit for a King'
Homemade cakes and crowns can be bought into school on the morning of Friday 5th ready to be judged during our school assembly and the cakes can be sold at the event if you so wish (the PTFA can sell the cakes on your behalf).
Children are invited to come to school wearing red, white and blue.
At hometime, children must be collected as usual as children staying for the event must be supervised by parents and carers. We will do our best to make sure that children who are booked into Lates are able to enjoy the event under the supervision our usual staff.
More information will be provided over the next few weeks.
AiP will be doing a special lunch menu please see the leaflet below for details.
TUESDAY 2ND MAY - PARTIAL SCHOOL CLOSURE
Dunalley will be partially closed on Tuesday 2nd May due to inadequate staffing levels.
Following a consultation with governors, and having completed a risk assessment, I am now able to inform you that:
- 2W will be closed to all children for the whole day
- 3SR will be closed to all children for the whole day
- 4W will be closed to all children for the whole day
- 4P will be closed to all children for the whole day
- 5J will be closed to all children for the whole day
We will signpost families who are impacted by the partial school closure to remote learning opportunities that link to our school curriculum.
Please be aware that safely managing staff absence whilst fulfilling statutory responsibilities and keeping the school open for as many children as possible is a complex matter and clearly this is a difficult situation. I would ask you, however, to be understanding. A national strike by teachers is very unusual.
Taking strike action is not something that any teacher would undertake lightly. Those on strike will have thought long and hard about their decision and will also lose pay for the days that they are on strike.
SATs Week 2023
Due to the King's Coronation, these start on Tuesday 9th May.
Please remember that all children are welcome to attend breakfast, at 8.15am free of charge - a survey was sent out earlier this week.
All year 6 teachers are very pleased with the progress made by the children and their positive attitude to their learning and preparation for the tests themselves.

Weds 24th – Fri 26th May
We are looking forward to celebrating Dunalley’s first Literature Festival in a few weeks when many exciting activities are planned.
We have a range of authors including Hannah Shaw, Andy Seed, Kate Townsend and John Rigby who will be running writing and creative workshops across the week. Hannah Shaw and Andy Seed will be signing copies of their books after school on Wednesday 25th, which will be available to buy.
A ‘bedtime stories and parental event’ will be held on Thursday 25th May from 6-6:45pm, where children can come and enjoy a bedtime story and snack – please wear your pyjamas if you wish! Whilst waiting for your child, parents can also enjoy refreshments in the hall and browse school reading materials and other book related resources. We are also hoping to launch our ‘School Book Wish List’, that evening, too.
A book fair, run by the very popular ‘The Yellow Lighted Book-shop', who have an amazing selection of books, will take place after school on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week.
A celebration assembly will take place on the Friday morning for all pupils to share their work completed as we celebrate reading and writing.
The children have been enjoying the new hand built equipment and activities around school, Mr Child's and Mr Isher have worked really hard on the site and have been recycling old chairs, wheel barrows and fence panels putting them all to good use around the site for the children to play with, they have also made a fabulous music wall, huge thanks to them for their vision and commitment to improve the site to benefit the children.
The weather has been somewhat disappointing for spring, it has been very wet and rather unpredictable, so please ensure that your child does come to school with a water proof coat and has a suitable change of footwear in school (welly's being the preferred choice).
We have a lot of spare welly's in school and hope to pop them in the playground next Friday at our Coronation Picnic for you all to look through. If your child does not have welly's please grab a pair that fit and ask your child to pop them in their class welly store.
Following our award last week the OPAL team hope to further develop the OPAL initiative at Dunalley, we would still like donations from our families and the wider community.
